David Pope
Assessment Board of Appeals

Our family has been in Ridgefield since 2013.  We have four beautiful children and a very energetic golden retriever.

I work for a manufacturer’s representative firm in the industrial coatings business and handle the metro NYC territory.

What office are you running for?

What are the main issues facing the Board of Assessment Appeals?

Board of Assessment Appeals

Ridgefield needs to balance the interests/rights of property owners’ and the Town’s need to collect tax revenue.  In the next few years, residents may feel that their property taxes are being raised disproportionately due to inflation and other economic factors.  Many facets of our lives today are overly politicized.  I strongly believe the Board needs to be an impartial avenue for residents and businesses to appeal the Town's estimated property valuations and the related taxes, free of political bias and motivations.

Why are you the right candidate for BAA this year?

I am blessed with a career that allows me to interact with people of all different backgrounds.  From architects designing supertall buildings in NYC to contractors in the field.  This Board position requires members to have an open mind and review each appeal with a careful consideration of the facts.  An independent mind, free of political bias is the best fit for this Board position.  I take pride in the fact that I can help solve problems with folks of all different backgrounds.

What do you hope to accomplish if elected?

Most of all, I hope that residents feel that their voices are being heard.  We all have a tendency to throw our arms up in resignation when the tax bill comes due.  This Board exists to give residents a voice.
